The largest wildfire in the U.S. swelled to over 600 square miles on Tuesday, bigger than the city of Los Angeles, fire officials in California said, as thousands of firefighters battled the blaze in a wilderness area north of Sacramento.

In Southern California, roughly 2,000 people had been ordered to evacuate because of a fire sweeping through the Sequoia National Forest.

California’s Park Fire had swelled to 383,619 acres as of Tuesday morning, making it the fifth-largest wildfire in Golden State history, according to Cal Fire .
