The Israel Defense Forces and Israeli Security Agency said Thursday they are "checking the possibility" that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was among three people killed in the Gaza Strip. The 62-year-old has served as Hamas' leader in Gaza since 2017 and assumed leadership of the group's Political Bureau after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Iran in July.

Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry has said at least 87 people were killed and more than 40 injured in Saturday's Israeli air strike on the city of Beit Lahiya in the north of the Palestinian enclave. The ministry said a number of people were still under the rubble after a residential area was hit.
