The ceasefire is an obvious relief to many and reveals three major achievements from Israel's devastating response to Hezbollah, but it could also signal the start of a more intense conflict with Iran.

The proposed ceasefire agreement is based on the terms of the UN Security Council resolution 1701 which was adopted in 2006 to manage to end a month-long war between Israel and Hezbollah.It intended to create a buffer zone in southern Lebanon but the implementation on a full scale failed due to pushback on both sides.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday recommended his Cabinet approve a United States-brokered ceasefire agreement with Lebanon’s Hezbollah, setting the stage for an end to nearly 14 months of fighting linked to the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip.
