Voters in Portland, Oregon, have elected political outsider Keith Wilson as their next mayor. Wilson, a Portland native and CEO of a trucking company, ran on an ambitious pledge to end unsheltered homelessness within a year of taking office.

Keith Wilson formally accepted the position as Portland mayor-elect in a speech early Thursday afternoon, becoming the first Portland mayoral candidate elected by ranked-choice voting.

Multnomah County elections officials said they plan to release an updated tally of ballots cast no later than 6 p.m. Wednesday.
