Smoke was seen coming from brush near the backyard of some homes in the area as fire crews tended to the blaze uphill. As a result of the fire, residents on Copps Hill Street were ordered to evacuate their homes. One woman who lives in the area said her gardener warned her of the fire.

The Beacon fire was reported near Alcott Place and Ridgeway Avenue around 3:30 p.m., according to Watch Duty, a nonprofit that tracks wildfires. The area has numerous tracts of homes to the south and more homes across the hill to the north, as well as Chapparosa Park.
