The title battle between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris erupted in controversy at the United States Grand Prix after the McLaren driver was penalised for passing his rival for third place off the track.

Lando Norris’ championship hopes were dealt a hammer blow after he was handed a controversial five-second penalty to finish behind rival Max Verstappen following a compelling US Grand Prix.

Lando Norris was on his "last strike" for track limits, said Max Verstappen, in their late US GP battle which saw Norris penalised.
