Parts of New York City saw record-breaking rainfall totals on Thursday, according to officials, as flooding in the city reportedly left two dead. NYC Emergency Management said on Thursday that Central Park saw 1.80 inches of rain fall, surpassing the previous record of 1.64 inches set back in 1917, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Over the summer, the mayor and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch swore in 1,100 police officer recruits, the largest class since January 2016, according to Adams' office. So far in 2025, the NYPD has hired 2,911 officers, the most since 2006, the mayor's office said.

At least three men, two of them disguised as construction workers, broke into a New York City home and drove off with a safe and jewelry worth more than $3 million, authorities said Tuesday. The daring heist happened on Oct. 16 at about 2:20 p.m. ET in the Jamaica Hills neighborhood of Queens, police said.
