SACRAMENTO, California — Gov. Gavin Newsom is rescinding an offer to dispatch attorneys to help prosecute drug crimes in Oakland, accusing Alameda County’s embattled progressive District Attorney Pamela Price of effectively refusing the state’s help.

Police data showing a 33 percent drop in crime was based on a faulty comparison of partial 2024 numbers to complete numbers from previous years.

According to a San Francisco Chronicle analysis, Oakland’s police department has misrepresented the city’s crime rates over the past few years.
