Some residents are beginning to assess the damage to their homes as firefighters appear to turn a corner in containing the blazes. But officials say there is much work to be done.

Firefighters continue to contain and suppress both the Los Angeles-area wildfires Friday, as winds that battered the region earlier in the week have subsided. All red flag warnings of critical fire danger expired Thursday evening,

The Eaton fire, burning in Altadena, Pasadena and Sierra Madre, was 55% contained as of 6:30 a.m., according to Cal Fire. The Palisades fire, burning in Pacific Palisades, Malibu and Topanga and Mandeville Canyons, inched upward to 22% containment.
