The IDF found the remains of the last Israeli hostage from the October 7 invasion, St.-Sgt.-Maj. Ran Gvili, on Monday at around 2:00 p.m. at al-Batesh cemetery in northern Gaza

With the recovery of Gvili’s remains, all hostages abducted to Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023 have now been returned to Israel. This marks the first time in more than a decade that no Israelis remain held captive in the Strip.

The military rushed to find Gvili's remains as the clock ticked down for Israel to reopen the Rafah Border Crossing.

The ISA reported that this information led to the operation in which Ran was ultimately recovered. As part of the operation, more than 700 graves were opened and more than 250 bodies examined, until Ran was found in a Shifaa hospital body bag with his police-issue uniform, shoes, and belt still intact.
