The storm is bringing dangerous conditions to parts of the coast on Wednesday, but will then turn away from the United States.

Hurricane Erin battered North Carolina's Outer Banks with strong winds and waves that flooded part of the main highway and surged under beachfront homes before slowly moving away.

On Thursday, Hurricane Erin was several hundred miles off the coast of North Carolina and pushing storm surge and deadly rip currents toward the shore. Two other systems may form right behind.

Multiple warnings were in effect along the East Coast on Wednesday, as officials warned of a "life-threatening" situation.

An updated storm surge warning was issued by the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC on Thursday at 10:48 a.m. in effect until 7 p.m. for Northern Outer Banks.

Hurricane Erin continues its northerly track and is set to deliver impacts to the beaches in New Jersey and Delaware.

Weather conditions are expected to deteriorate along the coast of North Carolina on Aug. 20 due to Hurricane Erin, according to the NHC.

On Wednesday at 4:57 a.m. the NWS Newport/Morehead City NC issued an updated tropical storm warning in effect until 1 p.m. for Northern Outer Banks.
