Donald Trump accused the Biden administration of abandoning astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore on the ISS, urging Elon Musk to rescue them.

US President Donald Trump has requested ‘First Buddy’ Elon Musk to bring ‘stranded’ Nasa astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore from the International Space Station (ISS). The duo have been in space for the past seven months and aren’t expected to return before March.

NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore launched aboard Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft in June 2024 for what was initially an eight-day mission. Due to propulsion system issues, NASA deemed Starliner unsafe for their return and reassigned them to SpaceX’s Crew-9 mission in September.

Indian-origin astronaut Sunita Williams along with Butch Wilmore has been stranded at the International Space Station (ISS) for over seven months after a technical issue delayed her eight-day mission, which was supposed to conclude in June. Williams is now "trying to remember what it’s like to walk."

NASA in December announced that SpaceX’s Crew-10 mission to the International Space Station (ISS) is now targeting no earlier than late March 2025 for its launch.

US President Donald Trump said he asked Elon Musk's and SpaceX to “go get” the two NASA astronauts, who have been “abandoned in space”, as soon as possible.

Elon Musk wrote in an X post that Donald Trump had asked SpaceX to bring Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore home.
