The U.S. Supreme Court is set on Tuesday to consider the legality of a regulation issued by President Joe Biden's administration cracking down on "ghost guns," largely untraceable firearms whose use has proliferated in crimes nationwide.

On the second day of the new term, the justices will wrestle with whether the federal government can regulate kits that can be assembled into untraceable homemade guns.

Gun rights groups challenging the rules for easy-to-assembly weapons kits say a change in the law is needed to require background checks and serial numbers.
