The South Coast Air Quality Management District advised OC residents of potential smoke impacts due to wildfires burning in SoCal.

With strong winds in the forecast, the Coachella Valley is expected to see wildfire smoke until 5 p.m. Saturday and dust until 10 p.m. Sunday.

As the wildfires raged and smoke billowed across Los Angeles, officials issued air quality alerts, schools canceled classes and scientists warned about the dangerous - even fatal - consequences of wildfire smoke.

With another surge of fierce Santa Ana winds, residents were asked to remain vigilant. An Air Quality Alert has been extended for many portions of LA County through Wednesday evening.
