By Akash Sriram July 10 (Reuters) - Elon Musk may have pitched a future where space powers AI, but Wall Street analysts say SpaceX's near-term value remains firmly tethered to Earth, where it is building out the infrastructure underpinning the AI boom.
Small satellites would detect nuclear arms launched secretly into orbit under a new monitoring system proposed by a scientist to address fears about the militarisation of space. The probes would look for tell-tale emissions of subatomic particles that show spacecraft are carrying such weapons in breach of international law and with the potential to wreak havoc on thousands of satellites orbiting Earth.
Although the 1967 Outer Space Treaty bans nuclear weapons in space, there’s currently no way to verify that satellites aren’t carrying them — and there are very good reasons to believe some nations have secretly deployed such weapons in Earth’s orbit.
The first sake brewed in outer space has already sold out on Earth, despite the astronomical price tag. Sake brewery Dassai Inc. and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. said they created the beverage in a simulated lunar gravity environment aboard the International Space Station.
