Houston weather: Second round of storms tonight
Another round of storms will move through southeast Texas this evening. Due to that threat, a flood watch continues until early Sunday.
An area of low pressure that formed between South Florida and the Central Bahamas is forecast to bring periods of heavy rain and coastal flooding to the Gulf Coast region over the weekend.
Wetter-than-average conditions for the Ohio Valley and southern Great Lakes region, along with most of Alaska, are also favored. Drier-than-average conditions are forecast in the desert Southwest, along the Gulf Coast, and from Florida to the Carolinas. Drought conditions are expected to persist and worsen from southern Texas to California.
These high tides, sometimes called king tides, occur during full moons a few times a year in the fall on the East Coast. But these seasonal high tides cause flooding more often in some locations as sea levels rise and the land subsides, according to federal tide data.
