The Ronald Reagan ad that riled President Donald Trump to the point of terminating trade talks with Canada is coming down — after it gets a few more plays during the World Series.

President Donald Trump has canceled trade negotiations with Canada over what he called a “fake” ad that featured parts of an anti-tariff speech delivered by conservative hero and former President Ronald Reagan.

US President Donald Trump halted all trade negotiations with Canada earlier this week over an advert in which former President Ronald Reagan says tariffs "hurt every American". The ad, sponsored by Canada's province of Ontario and released last week, features excerpts of an address Reagan gave in 1987 focusing on foreign trade.

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute is drawing blowback and praise for arguing that a Canadian government advertisement playing in U.S. markets misrepresented the 40th president’s words to blast President Donald Trump’s tariff policies.

President Donald Trump on Thursday night threw a fit over a new $75 million ad campaign launched by the Ontario government to push back against his tariffs on Canada. “Based on their egregious behavior, ALL TRADE NEGOTIATIONS WITH CANADA ARE HEREBY TERMINATED,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website in response to the ad.

The anti-tariff ad, which President Trump pointed to in cutting off trade talks with Canada, uses several sound bites from an April 1987 speech, though not in the order President Ronald Reagan said them.
