Donald Trump repeats claim that Zelenskyy didn’t like his peace plan
US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supposedly does not like the peace plan that has been developed, according to a White House broadcast. According to Trump,
“His people love it, but he hasn’t read it,” the president claimed regarding the proposal that would have Kyiv accept painful concessions.
KYIV, Ukraine -- KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — President Donald Trump on Sunday claimed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “hasn’t read” a U.S-authored peace proposal aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war.
The president said he had exchanged “pretty strong words” with European leaders, while Russia signaled it saw itself as increasingly on the same page as the U.S.
In an interview with Politico, Trump accused Zelenskyy of "clinging on to power" and cast doubt on Ukraine's democratic standing. "They haven't had an election in a long time. You know, they talk about a democracy, but it gets to a point where it's not a democracy anymore," he said, prompting a firm response from Kyiv.
KYIV, Ukraine -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was due to hold urgent talks Thursday with leaders and officials from about 30 countries that are supporting Kyiv’s effort to obtain fair terms for an end to the war with Russia.
President Donald Trump repeatedly said during his White House campaign that if he won the 2024 election, he would be able to end the war between Russia and Ukraine “in 24 hours.” But in the 10 months since he took office,
Zelenskyy said Ukraine could hold elections within 60–90 days if allies ensure security, even as Washington gives Kyiv only “days” to respond to a contentious peace proposal.
