The shortstop felt a pop in his shoulder as he dove to his right in the eighth inning of Saturday’s loss to the Rays. He was in quite a bit of pain, but eventually stayed in the game after a lengthy visit with manager Aaron Boone and head athletic trainer Tim Lentych.

Volpe went through a battery of on-field strength tests before staying in the game, then underwent an X-ray at Yankee Stadium that he said came back clean.
