As a result of all the snow, an avalanche warning is in effect through Thursday for all of the Colorado backcountry areas in the northern and western mountains. It is recommended to avoid backcountry skiing and snowboarding during this period of time.

The snowstorm bearing down on Colorado has already produced a winter storm warning and avalanche warning for much of the mountains.

Snow has fallen upwards of 20 inches in the mountains of Colorado. Snow is forecasted to wrap up Wednesday night as many travel for Thanksgiving.

Heavy overnight snow in Colorado’s mountains created hazardous travel conditions that will continue through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Slick, slushy roads are also on their way to Denver after the snowstorm spread into the metro area overnight,

A Winter Weather Advisory is up for the Denver area through 2 p.m., though the heaviest snow will probably fall before 10 a.m. Wednesday.
