People across the northern Caribbean were digging out from the destruction of Hurricane Melissa on Thursday as deaths from the catastrophic storm climbed.
Hurricane Melissa is quickly moving away from Bermuda after leaving a trail of widespread destruction across the Caribbean, where the death toll continues to rise.Dozens of deaths have been blamed on the storm.

In Cooper City, Brittany and Dwayne Wolfe have offered up their home as a drop-off site for diapers and other necessities. The couple are the cofounders of The Greater Fort Lauderdale Diaper Bank, and many of the organization’s volunteers and supporters grew up in Jamaica or still have family on the island.
Former Hurricane Melissa, one of the strongest Atlantic storms on record, weakened after leaving a trail of devastation across Caribbean islands.
CORE, which has previous experience responding to storms in the Caribbean, has deployed air cargo ships of hygiene kits, tarps and essential relief supplies to Jamaica and is preparing to send resources to Haiti. The organization is accepting donations here.
