Mack Brown, who rejuvenated the Texas football program during a 16-year tenure from the late 1990s before his forced resignation after the 2013 season, has been fired from his job as North Carolina’s head coach.

Mack Brown 's legendary run in Austin ended in 2013 after 16 seasons with the Texas Longhorns. Brown won't exceed 16 seasons in Chapel Hill after Tuesday's dismissal as head coach at North Carolina.

Rick Barnes and Mack Brown coached basketball and football, respectively, at Texas for 14 years. The Tennessee coach remains good friends with Brown.
