Buckling to mounting pressure amid nationwide outrage, the Odisha Government has ordered a judicial probe into the alleged custodial abuse of a serving Army officer and his fiancée in a Bhubaneswar police station on 15 September.

The incident reportedly took place on September 15 when the Army Major and the woman went to the Bharatpur police station to complain against some miscreants, who had harassed them while returning from a hotel late at night.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has called for a judicial inquiry into the alleged torture of an army officer and sexual assault of his fiancée at a police station. Justice Chittaranjan Das will preside over the investigation.

Deputy CMs Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, and two other Cabinet ministers also discussed the matter with the Army officer and his fiancée at the state guest house.
