Wall Street's main indexes closed roughly flat on Monday, after struggling for direction while investors awaited a raft of corporate earnings reports from major retailers for more signs about the state of the economy and the Federal Reserve's annual symposium in Jackson Hole.

Wall Street’s major averages were slightly lower on Monday as investors shift their focus to a wave of retail earnings and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s upcoming speech at the Jackson Hole symposium later this week.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 17.0 points, the S&P 500 fell 4.8 points, the Nasdaq Composite dropped 6.2 points
