Elon Musk said the outages at X were caused by a cyberattack in Ukraine. Experts blamed botnets, but the culprits will be hard to find.

Ukraine was not involved in the "massive cyberattack" Musk reported, the chief of Kyiv's Foreign Affairs Committee told Newsweek.

"We're not sure exactly what happened but there was a massive cyber-attack to try and bring down the X system with IP [Internet Protocol] addresses originating in the Ukraine area," Musk said in an interview with the Fox Business channel.
