Fanned by fierce winds and fueled by vegetation bone-dry after a long period of little or no rain, the Los Angeles fires broke out on Tuesday and have relentlessly burned more than 34,000 acres (13,760 hectares), or some 53 square miles (137 sq km). Neighborhoods have turned to ash in some parts of Los Angeles.
Health expert warns of air quality issues from Los Angeles wildfires
Air quality issues from the fires have the potential spread far, so medical expert David Geier is warning the Lowcountry to be aware of hazardous smoke should it make its way to the coast. "It is not good news for the health of anybody, there is no safe level of wildfire smoke," said Geier.
