The Pac-12's membership offer to Memphis would have been a "bad" deal for the university, Tigers athletic director Ed Scott said Thursday, confirming, too, that the Pac-12 was only willing to cover $2.5 million of AAC's $25 million exit fees.

Scott spoke to the media toward the end of a whirlwind week. On Monday, the athletic department released a statement saying Memphis was committed to the AAC after the Pac-12 had offered it a spot in a rebuilt version of the conference. Memphis chose to stay in the AAC alongside Tulane, UTSA and South Florida, which had also been Pac-12 targets.

Memphis and three other universities re-affirm their commitment to remain in the American Athletic Conference amid interest from the Pac-12 Conference.

Memphis Athletics has been in the conversation as well. However, in late September, news broke that the program along with Tulane, USF, and UTSA planned to stay in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) despite Pac-12 discussions.
