One day after he was placed on the injured list with forearm tightness, it was determined that New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt likely will undergo Tommy John surgery. Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Saturday afternoon that Schmidt has a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow.

The New York Yankees’ pursuit of stability atop the American League East has been dealt yet another blow, as emerging rotation stalwart Clarke Schmidt is set to miss the remainder of the season following an ulnar collateral ligament tear in his right elbow.

Clarke Schmidt is all but certain to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow. "I think it's pretty much inevitable," manager Aaron Boone said.
