Gov. Josh Shapiro is freeing up around $5 million to help feed Pennsylvania residents impacted by the lapse in SNAP benefits.

In Pennsylvania, SNAP provides more than $366 million in benefits to about two million families, including 713,000 children.

On top of the $5 million in emergency funds, another $1 million and counting has been pledged from private donors.

Recent political violence incidents in Pennsylvania, including an attack on Gov. Josh Shapiro's residence, have heightened security concerns among state leaders.
