Police have retrieved photographs and video footage from CCTVs of as many as 75 people so far suspected to be involved in the violence

The Uttar Pradesh (UP) administration on Wednesday made public photos of several rioters who went on a rampage in Sambhal on Sunday, attacking the police as well as the mosque survey team.

Tension had been brewing in Sambhal since November 19 when the mosque was first surveyed on the court's orders following a petition claiming that a Harihar temple had stood at the site.

As more evidence emerged regarding the 24 November violence in Sambhal, the Uttar Pradesh Police now intend to display posters featuring photographs of over 100 accused. These individuals are accused of firing weapons and throwing stones during the violence against a court-mandated survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid in the Kot West area.

Days after violence broke out in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, killing four people and injuring several others, the police said protesters have been identified through video footage from drone cameras and CCTV footage from the area.

Previously, the Yogi Adityanath government had put up posters of protesters during the anti-CAA protests in 2020. These posters were displayed across several locations, including the state capital, but were later removed following a court order.

Sambhal Police have released images of individuals allegedly involved in the violence opposing the mosque survey on November 24.
