OpenAI’s for-profit arm finalized its conversion into a public-benefit corporation and reached a deal with Microsoft that will see the tech giant take a 27% stake.

OpenAI established a for-profit arm valued at $500 billion Tuesday, doing so through a long-anticipated corporate restructure that provides Microsoft with a large stake in the new company as it looks to expand on its rapidly expanding artificial intelligence offerings.

As part of the new agreement, Microsoft holds a $135 billion stake in the for-profit OpenAI business public benefit corporation, or OpenAI Group PBC,
