After one of the biggest offseason quarterback battles in BYU football's history, the team has officially named freshman Bear Bachmeier the starting quarterback.
Fr. Primary backup: McCae Hillstead, 5-10, 195, So. In a somewhat surprising development, Bachmeier beat out both Hillstead and Treyson Bourguet to be named BYU’s starting quarterback to open the season.
If BYU starts Bachmeier, and it appears it will happen, it would be historic in Provo. He has a great starting ramp with Portland State and Stanford at home before going to East Carolina, then the Big 12 opener at Colorado.
The offensive skill positions have been one of the biggest storylines of fall camp, with questions swirling around depth and playing time; by week three, BYU’s coaches and players are starting to provide some clarity.
