NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - It was a worst-case scenario in Texas as heavy rain led to deadly flooding early in the morning on the Fourth of July. A meteorological system known as a mesoscale convective vortex slowly swirled over the region, causing training storms and dropping heavy rain.

ODESSA, Texas ( KBTX /Gray News) - A police department in Texas announced on Saturday that one of its law enforcement officers is missing. According to the Odessa Police Department, Officer Bailey Martin and some of his family members took a trip to the Guadalupe River near Kerrville for the Fourth of July holiday when the area flooded.

A July Fourth weekend deluge in Texas caused catastrophic flash flooding that has killed at least 89 people. Camp Mystic in Kerr County says Monday morning that it is “grieving the loss” of 27 campers and counselors as the search continues for victims of the disaster.
