OpenAI on Friday announced plans to set up its first office in India, located in New Delhi. They will set it up later this year. The company is rapidly expanding its AI tools in India. The country is now ChatGPT's second-largest and fastest-growing market after the US.
Altman highlighted that ChatGPT has seen exponential growth in the country, with its user base increasing fourfold in the past year. This surge in adoption, he said, was a major factor behind the decision to strengthen OpenAI’s presence in the Indian market.

The new plan was leaked earlier and OpenAI recently introduced local currency pricing in India via India's payment framework. With that, ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro are now offered for 1,999 rupees ($22.95) and 19,990 rupees ($229.50) — more expensive than the $20 and $200 users paid prior to the local currency rollout.
