The Federal Reserve would likely have lowered interest rates this year if it weren’t for President Donald Trump’s significant policy changes, Chair Jerome Powell said Tuesday.

Over the weekend, Trump called Powell a “bad person” during an interview with Maria Bartiromo of Fox News and signaled that Powell’s replacement would be more amenable to the White House’s wishes. “We’re going to get somebody into the Fed who’s going to be able to lower the rates,” Trump said.
