The Pac-12's membership offer to Memphis would have been a "bad" deal for the university, Tigers athletic director Ed Scott said Thursday, confirming, too, that the Pac-12 was only willing to cover $2.5 million of AAC's $25 million exit fees.

Scott spoke to the media toward the end of a whirlwind week. On Monday, the athletic department released a statement saying Memphis was committed to the AAC after the Pac-12 had offered it a spot in a rebuilt version of the conference. Memphis chose to stay in the AAC alongside Tulane, UTSA and South Florida, which had also been Pac-12 targets.
