DETROIT -- Moritz Seider was all smiles after Tuesday’s practice at Little Caesars Arena’s BELFOR Training Center, as the 23-year-old defenseman spoke to the media about the seven-year contract extension ($8.55 million average annual) he re-signed with the Detroit Red Wings on Sept. 19.

Jonatan Berggren understands his assignment: This is a test he needs to pass.

Seider has been one of the team’s most important players during his three seasons. He’s appeared in all 246 games, logs more minutes than anyone, plays on both specialty teams and consistently matches up against top lines. He feels there still is a lot of room for growth.
