An explosion caused by a gas leak has destroyed a building in Wilmington. Wilmington police responded to a gas leak on Tuesday, Aug. 19, after a vehicle turning on to New Centre Drive from Bob King Drive struck a gas line after driving off the road, Wilmington Police Department Public Information Officer Greg Willett said at a news conference.
Conditions along the North Carolina coast are expected to deteriorate as Hurricane Erin begins to pass by on Wednesday, Aug. 20.
Terminations and reviews linked to the Trump administration's DOGE have hit the Wilmington area this year, including Cape Fear Memorial Bridge funds.
