Boston acquired Sims from the Reds at the trade deadline. He allowed nine runs, nine hits (two homers) and seven walks while striking out seven in 11 outings (10 innings) for the Red Sox before landing on the injured list Aug. 27 because of a right lat strain.

The Boston Red Sox haven't performed as they hoped over the last few years, but that doesn't mean there haven't been bright spots. Boston was looking for ways to improve the bullpen ahead of the 2023 season and took a chance on then-37-year-old reliever Chris Martin.
