BuzzFeed on MSNWashington, DC Residents Are Sharing What It's Really Like Having National Guard Troops Patrol Their Neighborhoods
After cutting DC's budget and federal security funding, Trump sent 1,500 troops to patrol the city's wealthiest neighborhoods, claiming it's about crime — but residents aren't buying it.
Involved: Three U.S. Aegis guided-missile destroyers—USS Gravely, USS Jason Dunham and the USS Sampson. Around 4,000 troops as well as “several P-8 spy planes, and at least one attack submarine” have also been tasked to assist.
Troop deployments and patrols in downtown areas got the most attention, but life in historically diverse neighborhoods was reshaped as well.
