SAN FRANCISCO, May 21, 2013—This summer, as the America’s Cup Challenger Series takes to San Francisco Bay, the Asian Art Museum presents an exhibition of Japanese art from the rarely seen collection of Larry Ellison, Oracle CEO and owner of ORACLE TEAM USA, defender of the 2013 America’s Cup.

His Japanese Style home in Woodside, Calif., modeled after a 16th-century Japanese emperor’s palace, is worth an estimated $70 million. The 23-acre estate took nine years to design and build, and it was completed in 2004.

Antique Japanese screens, doors, stone lanterns and other items are being collected for reuse in the new structures. But the home originally on the property when it was purchased by Mr. Ellison, designed by famed Hearst Castle architect Julia Morgan in 1913, has been dismantled and the historic elements stored away with no clear future.
