Supplemental to this, there is a live service bounty system, which permits player-to-player challenges to be posted and attempted with public scoreboards. This component solely exists as an actively moderated gameplay aspect, and cannot exist outside of that. An MMO like World of Warcraft is different from a live service game.

The point is, Fortnite raised the bar in terms of what a "good" live service game looks like. And all the kids who played it will forever have their expectations of a live service game raised because of it, beyond levels achievable by most game studios.

Destiny 2 is practically synonymous with live service but you won't see the term used on its Steam page, just "evolving", similar to what was said about Darktide being "almost a live service". I reckon companies rarely ever describe their products outright as 'live service' because it has a lot of expectations and a very blurry definition.

On an Asus A15 where lighting is run by the "Asus Optimization" service, ROG live service has done literally jack shit. You only need Asus Optimization for lighting and Armory Crate service for the weird technical doodads. I'm not sure if you even need armory crate for the fan speed shit. This is not the Aura, which is seperate.

It just sounded like the usual fake hype for just the normal live service thing of just updating every few months and saying the players did something that they didn't. But damn I was wrong. The game does literally update itself in response to players winning matches and stuff.

Nov 26, 2021 · The term live service I'd used by the game industry to advertise a game with consistent story changing upgrades and events, that is suppose to be an alternative to subscriptions & expansions. In reality these games are riddled with progression microtrasctions and designed to be slow to progress to drive consumers into buying them.

It’s a “live-service” game that has seen zero story DLC and a very small handful of new maps, but a constantly updated premium store (thanks, Microsoft and 343i).

Aug 7, 2022 · Live service should be supported indefinitely. Their money stream is indefinite so why would the content stream roadmap/timeline be limited? Since the game is a live service, the customer has the right to demand rapid release of content as well. Consistent and constant new content is part and parcel of being a live service.
