The Virgin River is a powerful force that continues to shape Zion Canyon. Each rain event can change the flow of the river dramatically. These photos, taken from separate storms in 2019, show the river rising from around 50 cubic feet per second (CFS) to 1,500 CFS. In the past two years, we have had two floods that have reached over 4,000 CFS! Floods like this are usually short-lived, starting and ending within a few hours.
