Bettye Swann, born Betty Jean Champion on October 24, 1944, in Shreveport, Louisiana, was an American soul singer. She was also known as Betty Barton later in life. Swann began her solo singing career in 1964, after moving to Los Angeles, California in 1963. Local DJ Al Scott encouraged her to change her name to Bettye Swann and became her manager.
