For 1984, the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car was the all-new Pontiac Fiero. Two thousand Indy Fieros were sold, with all of them powered by the 2.5L four-cylinder engine making 92 horsepower. For the third time in the Camaros 15-year history, it was selected to be the Pace Car for the Indianapolis 500. Just over 6,000 appearance replicas were sold nationwide through Chevrolet dealers. The 1982 Camaro Z28 was the highest performance edition of the new, third-generation cars which featured a variety of firsts including a four-cylinder and fuel-injected engine, and a hatchback body style.
