Bamburgh Castle hits differently from the air. Long before it became the fortress we see today, this headland held the stronghold of the Anglo-Saxon kings of Northumbria — a place of power long before most of England even had towns. The castle has been rebuilt, ruined and rebuilt again across the centuries. Bamburgh Castle in sunshine is hard to beat - all that stone on the ridge, the sea right there, and the whole coast opening out behind it. It’s a place with a ridiculous amount of history under one name - an earlier stronghold here was known as Bebbanburh, and the castle you see now has its core in the Norman rebuild. I love filming it from the air because you get the full setting in one sweep - the castle sat on the dark whinstone of the Great Whin Sill, with that wide, bright coast stretching
