In observance of Columbus Day, the Georgia Senate is highlighting the city of Columbus, Georgia, named after explorer Christopher Columbus. Established in 1828 along the Chattahoochee River, Columbus was one of the few U.S. cities planned before its founding and was created to strengthen Georgia’s western border. Today, the city serves as a hub for trade, industry, and military training. The Senate Press Office is closed today and will reopen for normal business hours on Tuesday, October 14. #ga
