Have you ever heard of using hurricane ties instead of traditional blocking to attach the joist to the beam of the deck? For this deck build, we used H1Z from Simpson Strong Tie. They are attached to the face of the beam and the joist on one side, and they help with uplift and lateral movement keeping the joist in place. The DTT deck tension ties are used as security to ensure the deck doesn’t fall away from the house/ledge. For this project, we use DTT1z to attach to the outside of the house. I
